Phredber,...
...the adventure bear!
This is a preview of a little bit of the Phredber stories,..
for kids and really big kids.
The idea is that parents read it at bed-time.
(and to the their children too!!)
This is a new bit of what will become a much bigger website, so keep checking cos I have quite
a bit more to add here.

Phredber is a scruffy bear
But he is loved a lot.
There are places where his fur is thin
And places it is not.
I won him at a fairground,
He was the last one on the shelf.
I won him first to give away
But then kept him for myself.
I took him everywhere with me,
So by the end of that long day
We'd sort of become bestest friends
And I couldn't give him away.
Well now he's been with me for years,
I know he's not a normal bear,
Coz when I get to where he was,
He often isn't there!
I think he likes adventures
And can disappear for days,
Then turns up in the strangest places
But he never says.
But night-times when I go to bed,
He comes into my dreams
And then I get to understand
Exactly where he's been.
So now that he's not listening,
I'm writing in my book
Of all the things that Phredber did,
For all my friends to look.
PB 2004

The Phredber stories are evolving! Bernard Stokes, a good friend of
mine and a brilliant artist to boot, has come on board to add his very dinstinctive art to Phred's experiences.
I've already got a few of his pictures and there are more on the way for the first book, "Dandelion Diversion".
It has been suggested that some of these should become posters, to brighten up a bedroom wall, or any other room
for that matter. Hence that will happen too, with a little skill from a clever guy (Aaron) who is the printer
in my local town.
It is hoped that the book will be available as a hard-backed version. It will also be made available as a PDF
download for a small fee. There are several more stories in this series yet to complete. I have a pile of new
characters in the form of those visitors to my garden and the woods round here. Of course there are also others,
Llewi the cuddly dragon, Biggles Bear who really does fly and a whole lot more. Biggles is another book character
by W.E. Johns and if you like stories about flying, you really should read those books too, if you can find them,
as that's who my Biggles is named after.
The stories take time as I have to spend a while sleeping till these guys turn up in my dreams and explain just what on earth
they've been up to! Then it's just a matter of writing it all down when I wake up. Have you ever tried to remember
a whole dream and write it down? I thought it would be easy till I tried it but it does get easier with practice!
Then I give the stories to Berni and he gets to work creating all the pictures.
That is a whole other task that takes quite a while too because he makes sure they all look so good. This means
we have our work well and truly piled up! I promise we are getting there.
Oh yes, I should have mentioned that the aeroplanes Biggles flies have some cameras and he is very keen to put
some videos of his flying skills on YouTube. When his books come out, there will be DVDs included with several
of those flights seen from his cockpit which I know a lot of you will find real fun.
